MtnKbd recently had it’s 3 year anniversary (I’ll have more finance blogs out soon). At the end of September I attended my second meetup as a vendor with a booth. The event was great, with a few hundred people showing up across the day, there was always constant foot traffic. The hosts of the event had a continuous flow of giveaways to keep people moving around.
The Numbers
On the day I sold just over $4,640 ($4,817 with online orders) worth of goods via the POS system. This ranged across various different items including keyboards and key caps.
To go even more granular, the more popular items included Domikey Hush keycaps, Recycled Aluminium Keycaps (more on this shortly), KAM SuperUser, XMI Keycaps and Domikey BoW Keycaps. These items are often quite good sellers, the Domikey BoW Keycaps set is a new seller of mine so I’m glad to see it selling well.
Here’s a more detailed description of the numbers. There’s a few orders that don’t have profit included, but overall just over $450 in profit for the day which almost covered the fee to be at the event. Although I didn’t make any profit for the day, I did move a lot of stock that was harder for me to put on the shop like small sample items that never turned into wholesale orders.
The average order value throughout the day was $180 which is a lot higher than normal for me, which I’m guessing is because people like to see items physically before hand.
The Red Charity Caps
Last year I made up some Red Aluminium Keycaps, for every purchase I donate the full purchase price to the NSW Food Bank. You get a nice keycap and a family gets food for the week. Especially during times like this, the NSW Food Bank do some amazing work and I’m really proud to support them. Why are they mentioned in this post?
During the event I sold 4 Red “For Good” Recycled Aluminium keycaps. This pushed me over the $1,000 mark for money raised for the NSW Food Bank. So far, with the help of my wonderful community, we have provided 32 families with meals. Thank you all for that.
Conclusion
Overall, the Sydney meetup was awesome to see so many new and old faces after so long since the last. With all the numbers adding up and the donations made, I definitely lost money, but I’d do it again every time. I’m very grateful to have had an opportunity to not only attend but also sell and spread my brand awareness on the day. It was wonderful meeting everyone, sometimes it’s easy to get lost in the discord handles and order numbers, it’s easy to forget there’s another person on the other side receiving the items you’re shipping. I’m so proud to be running a small business in such a great community. Thank you very much to the organisers and I can’t wait for the next one.
Thank you for your support.
